Telfair Museum of Art Web site
Prototype

|
|
|
 |
| |
The Telfair Museum wished to explore the
possibility of having a Web site to create an opportunity for people
to view its artwork and gather information from remote locations using
the Internet. In doing this, the institution would market itself to
a wide range of potential visitors and would allow its work to be
studied by those who were geographically distant from the Museum itself.
The site should include artwork and exhibition spaces, audio and video
recordings of performances and lectures, written critiques by museum
curators, and virtual interaction with museum staff who would answer
questions or discuss topics dealing with the museums collection.

- Assessed the intrinsic value of an in-person visit to the museum
and identified how this experience can translate to the Web through
the use of message boards, chat, 360 degree room shots, streaming
audio, database searches, etc.
- Created a virtual tour of the museums galleries
- Created virtual galleries of artwork, organized by medium that
include a photo of each piece, biography of the artist, physical
description of the artwork, curators critiques, and links
to other related works or resources
- Designed a consistent visual interfaces that were applied to
the individual areas of the site
- Prepared high quality, carefully compressed images for the display
of artwork

Response to the prototype was extremely positive. The Telfair Museum
has since gathered the necessary resources and coordinated the development
of a fully functioning Web site.
