 mission

The GCA wanted to make the ticket purchasing process as convenient as possible for its patrons. Currently, the box office is open only from 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday, limiting the hours during which orders could be placed and, perhaps, discouraging prospective patrons from purchasing tickets. The GCA wanted to create an easy to use online ticket sales system that would allow visitors to the site to purchase tickets at all times and to make additional contributions to GCA. Some of the requirements for the system were that it include pictures of the artists, performance descriptions, seating information, and ticket prices be easy to maintain throughout the season, calculate prices based on audience and the various types of discounts available, conduct all transactions securely and be able to produce a receipt for the patron to print for their records.

 solution - design & production

  • Conducted an iterative design process with numerous rounds of testing on paper and interactive screen-based prototypes
  • Determined the technical specifications for the shopping cart and online content management systems and oversaw their implementation by programmers
  • Designed the interfaces for the display of shows and shopping cart system
  • Developed a web-based interface for the maintenance of the events database and order retrieval
  • Wrote instruction manual and trained staff on maintaining the system

 results

We created a custom-designed electronic commerce system for purchasing tickets in a secure online environment. In the first 4 months following the launch over 500 tickets were sold online accounting for almost 20% of all ticket sales and producing over $10,000 of revenue. The office staff maintain the site, adding new shows and removing shows as they sell out. Server statistics show that a majority of online purchase tickets are being made outside of the box office’s hours of operation, therefore allowing ticket sales to take place that might have otherwise been lost.
