The Rowan University Undergraduate Admissions
office realized that their Web site presented a first impression of
the University to many prospective students and their parents. They
wanted to provide a site that would not only offer accurate and interesting
information, but one that would convey a personal relationship between
the student and the Admissions staff. The site would provide easy
methods of communication between students and staff, creating opportunities
for dialogue about how Rowan would (or would not) be compatible with
an individuals needs. For those students who concluded Rowan
was right for them, there would be a clear, easy-to-use downloadable
and online application available.

- Organized the sites content into topic areas prospective
students are interested and familiar with
- Developed a downloadable application in PDF format that could
be mailed in as well as integrated an online application system
- Created an area on each page where images, depicting social
and educational opportunities, are placed in conjunction with
directed marketing statements
- Established a consistent aesthetic to be used throughout the
main areas of the Undergraduate Admissions Web site
- Developed templates to allow for easy maintenance and development
of new pages
- Provided real-time "chat" opportunities at specified
intervals during the recruitment season

The site is now a resource, to which the prospective student is
referred in all admissions media materials. The Admissions Office
had its highest total number of applicants ever this past admissions
season, and received 600 on-line applications exceeding a goal of
200. In addition, the Office received over 5,000 e-mails from prospective
students asking specific questions. A survey which was placed on
the site has received over 90% positive response. The site has received
a total of six advertising and design awards since its redesign.
